Rino Cerrone: Pioneer of Neapolitan Techno and Musical Visionary
The electronic music community is grieving the loss of Rino Cerrone, a pivotal figure in Neapolitan techno, who passed away this morning due to unknown circumstances.
News of Cerrone’s death was first shared by fellow Neapolitan DJ Joseph Capriati on social media. “I can’t believe you are gone, my friend,” Capriati wrote. “You taught me everything, stood by me during tough times, and we shared countless moments creating music and discussing life. Your memory will forever be with me wherever I go.”
Later in the day, a heartfelt message appeared on Cerrone’s Facebook page. “With a heavy heart, we say goodbye to our brother Rino Cerrone who left us this morning,” it stated. “We held out hope for your return, but while our dream didn’t come true, your legacy will live on in our hearts.”
Cerrone rose to prominence in the late ’90s as a member of Q-Men, alongside fellow artists Lino Monaco and Nicola Buono. He later co-founded the techno label Ri’li:s with Mario Mangenelli and released notable tracks on various labels, such as Genetic Recordings, Speaker Attack, and Music Man Recordings.
Rino Cerrone is renowned as one of the leading figures in Neapolitan techno, a unique genre characterized by its minimal and funky elements. His influence has been crucial in shaping the vibrant dance music scene in Naples.
Capriati shared with Resident Advisor that Cerrone decided to stop DJing in 2012, saying, “When he stopped performing, the Naples scene felt like it had ended.”
At EDM Identity, we extend our deepest condolences to Rino Cerrone’s family and friends during this incredibly challenging time.
