Barclay Crenshaw Set to Revive Claude Vonstroke Music Project in 2024

News

Barclay Crenshaw is set to return to his iconic Claude VonStroke project after a brief hiatus.

Typically, Barclay Crenshaw’s transition back to his original name was met with enthusiasm from the bass music scene. Having demonstrated his versatility, the Dirtybird founder is reviving his Claude VonStroke persona.

In a recent message to his fans, Crenshaw shared, “For those who have been patiently waiting, I’ll be bringing Claude VonStroke back next year. (This is my house music alias.),” He added, “It’s been a year since my last Claude VonStroke release, and I’m really eager to create new music.”

Does this indicate that his Barclay Crenshaw project will take a back seat? Not at all. “Don’t worry, BC fans. Next year, I’ll be working on both projects simultaneously,” Crenshaw wrote. “The Barclay project is just too enjoyable to put on hold!”

Longtime fans of Claude VonStroke were not surprised by his renewed commitment to bass music. In a 2016 interview, he stated, “If I could have been a drum and bass producer, I probably would have switched to that in a heartbeat.” Just a year later, he debuted his first album as Barclay Crenshaw.

In November of last year, Crenshaw revealed plans to pause the Claude VonStroke project starting in 2024. He faced skepticism from some fans, recounting that he “received many comments like, ‘oh, it’s just a passion project’ or ‘what about your VonStroke catalog?’” in a January email.

By March 2024, however, monthly Spotify streams for Barclay Crenshaw outnumbered those of Claude VonStroke. That same month, he released his long-anticipated follow-up album under his bass music alias, the ethereal Open Channel.

It remains to be seen what Crenshaw has in store for Claude VonStroke in 2025 and beyond.
