CRSSD Festival Fall: A Weekend to Remember with the Ocean View Stage Taking Center Stage
CRSSD Festival has firmly established its reputation in San Diego with each new edition. Featuring a lineup of top house and techno artists alongside live performances, this festival has become a cherished hallmark of the local music scene. The carefully curated lineups present a harmonious blend of local talent and international stars, ensuring music lovers leave with countless new discoveries. The iconic acts booked by FNGRS CRSSD are often exclusive to this festival, making it an unmissable event.
No matter which stage you wandered to this year, great vibes and exceptional sounds surrounded you. The Palms stage showcased a powerful lineup with acts like BLOND:ISH, Boris Brejcha, Four Tet, and Gorgon City. Meanwhile, the City Steps stage throbbed with techno beats, featuring headliners such as 999999999, I Hate Models, Adam Beyer, and HI-LO.
While I caught amazing performances at both stages, my heart was predominantly captured by Ocean View. This particular stage has long been a treasure trove for discovering my favorite artists, and this year was no exception, as I witnessed some of the most memorable sets of the weekend there.
Unique Acts at Ocean View: Soulwax and Gesaffelstein Steal the Show
This weekend in San Diego was filled with exciting performances, but the standout bookings were undeniably Soulwax from Belgium and Lyon’s own Gesaffelstein. It’s a rare spectacle to see three drummers executing a flawless performance as the Dewaele brothers did. Recalling their unforgettable set from Coachella 2018, Soulwax brought an exhilarating energy to the festival.
During their hour-long set, Soulwax delighted the audience with favorite tracks and infectious jams, leaving a lasting impression. The synchronized talent of the Dewaele brothers commanding the stage was nothing short of incredible, demonstrating the festival’s commitment to diverse and high-caliber acts.
However, my personal favorite of the weekend was clearly Gesaffelstein. His gritty, industrial sound had the crowd dancing and hyped during every transition. He delivered every sought-after track, including “Hellifornia,” “OPR,” and “Pursuit.” What resonated with me most was his focus on his darker sound during the set. While I appreciate his more commercial collaborations, I attend his performances expecting that signature intensity, and The Dark Prince certainly delivered in his festival-closing set on Sunday.
Ocean View Stage Leads to New Musical Discoveries: Kerala Dust and Jersey
As with past editions, CRSSD Festival never fails to introduce me to new musical treasures. This year, I was guided by reliable recommendations, which led me to the Ocean View stage during the day. I was thrilled to experience the distinctive sounds of Kerala Dust and Jersey. Kerala Dust blends subtle indie electronic vibes with a unique desert twist, perfectly complementing the beautiful San Diego atmosphere.
Also on my radar was Jersey, whose captivating performance utilized an innovative auxiliary board to manipulate sound and integrate live drumming while actively engaging with the audience. Their contagious energy infused the performance, showcasing vibrant, upbeat pop tunes that left me feeling satisfied and eager to explore their music further.
CRSSD Festival’s Stronghold on the House and Techno Scene: The Allure of Live Acts
There’s an enduring magic at Ocean View that keeps bringing me back to CRSSD Festival. The backdrop of planes landing at the nearby airport, palm trees lining the harbor, and stunning sunsets create an enchanting atmosphere. The combination of world-class performances and a large-scale production guarantees that the festival experience is worth every penny. Experiencing legendary artists live at Ocean View undoubtedly provides cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
So, does Ocean View truly reign supreme at CRSSD Festival? From my perspective, absolutely. I hope your festival experience was equally exhilarating this year. If you haven’t yet caught a performance at Ocean View, I encourage you to do so in the future. I promise to explore The Palms and City Steps more actively if you make that commitment, too!
