We’re excited to unveil the milestone 20th edition of ‘In Search Of Sunrise’, a series that has redefined the mix compilation landscape 25 years after its groundbreaking debut. For this significant anniversary, Black Hole Recordings has curated an outstanding six-mix journey that epitomizes the essence of this legendary compilation series.

As the new millennium approached, DJ Tiësto launched the first ‘In Search Of Sunrise’ on October 10, 1999, into a vibrant compilation scene. His earlier series, ‘Magik,’ had already generated significant buzz, but even the highest of expectations were exceeded by its reception, leading Tiësto to mix a total of seven editions before moving on from the series.
Fast forward to 2010, when the series made a comeback under the guidance of Tiësto’s former protégé, Richard Durand. He produced six editions and introduced a co-mixing format, taking listeners on auditory adventures through locations like India, South Africa, and Amsterdam. After Richard stepped away in 2015, the series took a three-year pause to refresh.
In 2018, Markus Schulz took on the role of the series’ new captain, maintaining the dynamic co-mixing tradition while stepping away from geographical themes. ‘In Search Of Sunrise 20’ marks Markus’s seventh contribution, matching Tiësto’s legacy. This collaborative spirit has also allowed notable artists like Gabriel & Dresden, Andy Moor, Jerome Isma-Ae, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Kyau & Albert, and Ilan Bluestone to leave their mark on the series.
Moving into the late summer of 2024, Black Hole Recordings announced six mixers for the 20th edition, starting with Solarstone, followed by Johan Gielen’s Airscape, Super8 & Tab, York, ZOYA, and of course, Markus, revealed weekly.
With over 100 tracks featured, it’s tough to pinpoint the highlights, but let’s spotlight some extraordinary moments each mix encapsulates. From York opening his set with ‘Reachers Of Civilisation’—echoing Tiësto’s inaugural mix—to finishing with ‘Farewell to the Moon’—perhaps the most iconic title in the series. Beyond that, Markus closes his mix with his long-lost remix of Accadia’s classic ‘Into the Dawn,’ while Solarstone revisits ‘Solarcoaster’ and Super8 & Tab celebrates their track ‘Helsinki Scorchin’ from previous editions. Additionally, Markus and ZOYA pay homage to Chicane—a quintessential producer fit for this storied collection. In summary, ‘In Search Of Sunrise 20’ stands as a celebration of six DJs, 100+ tracks, 450+ minutes of music, and a quarter-century of electronic music history, all embodied in one remarkable release.
