Massive Attack Cancels East Coast Tour Dates Due to “Unforeseen Circumstances”
Fans of Massive Attack across the US East Coast faced disappointment as the iconic band announced the cancellation of five highly anticipated tour dates.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Massive Attack must regrettably cancel their upcoming performance at the III Points Festival in Miami on October 19th, along with their shows in Atlanta, GA, Washington, DC, Boston, MA, and Forest Hills, NY,” the band stated on their Instagram Story. “We appreciate your understanding at this time.”
The most significant cancellation was their headlining set at III Points, a festival featuring renowned artists such as Sara Landry, Sammy Virji, and Justice, alongside Massive Attack.
Formed in 1988, Massive Attack emerged from the former Wild Bunch DJ collective, comprised of Andrew “Mushroom” Vowles, Grant “Daddy G” Marshall, and graffiti artist Robert “3D” Del Naja. Their influential ’90s albums, including Blue Lines, Protection, and the seminal Mezzanine, have solidified their status as pioneers of the trip-hop genre.
Current members Del Naja and Marshall, alongside former Wild Bunch emcee Tricky, have also committed to various social initiatives. Recently, they hosted their first UK event in five years on August 25 in Bristol, which was promoted as “the lowest carbon show of its size ever staged.” Their long-standing support for the Palestinian people has become increasingly controversial since last year’s escalation of the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Massive Attack is scheduled to return to the stage at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool on November 29.
