Sphere Entertainment to Construct a State-of-the-Art Venue in Abu Dhabi

News

Abu Dhabi is the next move in Sphere Entertainment’s plan to build “a global network of venues.”

The Sphere in Las Vegas is a major attraction — and for good reason. Featuring a stunning wraparound 16k LED screen and a state-of-the-art wave field synthesis sound system, this 18,600-capacity venue has hosted renowned artists such as U2, Phish, and Dead & Company, along with Anyma’s highly anticipated six-night run of New Year’s Eve shows. Now, Sphere Entertainment is set to replicate this innovative concept in Abu Dhabi.

As stated in a Sphere Entertainment press release, the forthcoming venue is part of the Department of Culture and TourismAbu Dhabi‘s “Tourism Strategy 2030.” While specific timelines for construction have yet to be disclosed, the release indicates that the new venue will occupy a “prime spot.”

“The vision for Sphere has always included a global network of venues, and today’s announcement is a significant milestone toward that goal,” remarked Sphere Entertainment CEO James L. Dolan. “Sphere is redefining live entertainment and extending the reach of its transformative impact. We are proud to collaborate with DCT Abu Dhabi to develop Sphere in their city.”

“We are thrilled to bring Sphere to Abu Dhabi in partnership with Sphere Entertainment, offering our residents and visitors an extraordinary new form of entertainment,” stated DCT Abu Dhabi Chairman H.E. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak. “Sphere Abu Dhabi will seamlessly integrate advanced technology with captivating storytelling, creating unforgettable memories for everyone who visits.”

Although Abu Dhabi is set to become the next Sphere location, it was not the initial choice for expansion. Plans originally called for a new Sphere venue in London, but those plans were abandoned after the city’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, denied the permit due to light pollution concerns.

For more updates regarding the Abu Dhabi expansion, further information will be shared on the official Sphere website as it becomes available.
