Hi, Andruss. Thanks for joining us today. Let’s dive right in! 2024 has been a breakout year for you with tracks like “Frikitona” receiving significant acclaim. How does “Pegao” reflect your growth as an artist?
I appreciate the opportunity. It’s an honor to be here. Following the release of a strong track like “Frikitona,” my sets have evolved, incorporating more groovy tech house infused with Latin elements. “Pegao” emerged from that style and quickly became a crowd favorite in my performances. When I shared it with Cloonee, he began incorporating it into his sets as well. My goal was never to surpass “Frikitona” but simply to create a track that people would love to dance to.
What’s something about your collaboration with Cloonee on “Pegao” that fans might not be aware of? Any behind-the-scenes insights from the studio?
Interestingly, the track was created in a single day right before my debut at Club Space in Miami, where I performed alongside Cloonee’s label for the Hellbent Showcase during Miami Music Week. A few days later, Cloonee reached out to ask if the song had been signed yet, and I pitched the idea for him to create a version two for us to release jointly.
This isn’t your first release on Cloonee’s Hellbent Records label, but it is your first full collaboration. How was the experience of working directly with Cloonee on this track?
The timing was perfect. We’ve been in constant communication over the past few months. I’ve also had the chance to play alongside him at several shows and showcases for the label. I seized the opportunity to present this track to him, and he was excited to get involved.
Your Latin influence is a significant aspect of your sound. How do you integrate your culture into your music, and what impact does it have on the global house scene?
I take immense pride in my roots. Mérida is a culturally rich city, and its influences have shaped my childhood, from listening to aalsa, reggaeton, and cumbia. Additionally, many talented DJs have guided me in discovering house music from the very beginning.
What can fans look forward to on your upcoming US tour? Are there any new tracks or collaborations in the works?
Absolutely! It’s been an incredible three-week tour, spanning from San Francisco to New York, both of which sold out, fueling my energy to continue this journey. The kickoff has been fantastic.
I have several singles lined up with the label Helix and am set to work on some remixes in the coming month. Without revealing too much about future music, I can share that there will be collaborations with Fatboi, Tom & Collins, and ACRAZE, in addition to a major remix for a top British DJ.
Lastly, the Latin tech house scene is gaining momentum. How do you envision this sound evolving, and where do you see it heading in the future?
I believe it’s here to stay. The potential for fusion is vast, and the possibilities are truly endless.
