“Due to medical recommendations, after the operation I will need to rest for a while,” wrote Spanish techno figurehead Oscar Mulero.
Oscar Mulero, a prominent figure in Spain’s techno music scene since the 1980s, has canceled all scheduled performances through 2024 due to health issues.
The DJ, producer, and PoleGroup Recordings label founder announced his situation in an Instagram post over the weekend, though he did not provide specific details. “Hi everybody, next week I will undergo a surgical procedure that I must go through, and due to medical recommendations, after the operation I will need to rest for a while,” Mulero shared. “Therefore, unfortunately, I am forced to postpone the performances I had scheduled until the end of the year.”
Among the affected events are a November 9 collaboration between 1/4 Escuro and Vault Sessions in Lisbon, and a November 16 event titled CODE – Fabrik, where he was set to perform alongside artists like Rebekah, Ben Sims, and Charlotte De Witte. Following that, he was scheduled to perform at the Dalma Festival in Malta on December 6, as well as gigs in London and Paris on December 13 and 20, respectively.
Oscar Mulero’s musical journey began with influences from goth bands such as The Cure and Joy Division, eventually leading him to EBM acts like Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb. He secured residencies at iconic Madrid venues like New World and Omen, gaining significant recognition after performing at the 1996 Sónar festival in Barcelona.
Mulero and his team are optimistic about returning to regular performances in 2025. “Both my agency Source and the clubs and festivals where I was going to perform are working to find new dates for 2025, so we will meet on the dance floor very soon,” he concluded in his statement. “Thank you all so much for your support!”
