Hey Alfiya Glow, how are you?

Feeling great, thank you!

To start, can you tell us about your experience at ADE this year?

It was my first time attending ADE, and I have to admit, I was a bit nervous at first since I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. But it ended up being an absolutely amazing experience. The energy of the entire city transforming into a hub for music and creativity is incredible—everywhere you go, everyone you meet is there for ADE, and that creates a unique, inspiring atmosphere. From spontaneous conversations with fellow artists to insightful panels and showcases, it really felt like a true celebration of Electronic Music and community.

Which events or sessions stood out to you the most and why?

For me, attending ADE was all about stepping outside of my comfort zone, and that was the goal I set for myself from the start. I wanted to focus on the business side of music this year, so I made it a point to attend professional mixers and networking sessions. Introducing myself, highlighting my accomplishments, and clearly communicating what I bring to the table and what I need felt daunting at first—but it was transformative. It’s often difficult as an artist to advocate for ourselves in this way without worrying about appearing too bold or like a ‘diva.’ But I realized how crucial it is to embrace those conversations, to connect authentically, and to make our needs and goals known. It was an empowering experience and reminded me of the importance of confidently owning our work and contributions.

Were there any trends or ideas that caught your attention during the conference?

Absolutely. One of the most striking trends I noticed at ADE was the growing emphasis on blending genres and live instrumentation within Electronic Music. There seems to be a rising demand for authenticity and organic elements woven into digital sets. As someone who integrates live electric violin into my DJ performances, this was especially exciting to see. It affirms that audiences are seeking more immersive and dynamic experiences. I also observed a strong focus on diversity, inclusion, and mental health within the music industry—a necessary and encouraging shift, as these conversations help foster a healthier and more supportive creative community.

Did you take the time to explore Amsterdam during the event? Do you have a favourite part of the city?

I managed to explore just a bit, but even that was enough to leave an impression. Simply walking the streets and soaking in the atmosphere of Amsterdam was incredible. There’s something magical about the blend of history, creativity, and energy in the city, especially during ADE. Every corner seemed to carry a story, and just being part of that bustling environment was inspiring. It’s a place that sparks curiosity and makes you feel connected to something larger than yourself.

In your opinion, how do you think the event is helping to shape the future of Electronic Music?

I see ADE as a global ‘check-in’ for the entire Electronic Music community—a moment when artists, producers, industry professionals, and fans come together, each bringing a unique piece of themselves and their craft. This convergence of talent and ideas creates a powerful exchange that helps shape the direction of the genre. It’s not just about showcasing new music; it’s about pushing boundaries, collaborating, and exploring what Electronic Music can become. Trends, technology, and cultural movements are shared and debated, creating a collective vision for the future. It’s inspiring to see how much innovation and growth can come from this exchange, ultimately pushing the entire industry forward.

What was the most inspiring part of ADE for you this year?

For me, the most inspiring part of ADE was witnessing artists from all over the world coming together in a spirit of openness and kindness. It was truly beautiful to see such a diverse group of people, each with their own stories and backgrounds, united by a passion for music. The willingness to collaborate, share, and support one another was a powerful reminder of the transformative power of community in this industry. It’s moments like these that show just how much we can accomplish when we lift each other up.

Were there any surprising moments at ADE for you?

Definitely! One of the most surprising moments for me was how easily genuine connections were formed amidst such a massive gathering. I expected it to be more business-like and a bit daunting, but there were countless instances of spontaneous conversations that turned into deep, meaningful exchanges. Another unexpected highlight was seeing how supportive established artists were toward emerging talent—there was a real sense of community. It was also surprising to realize how many people were interested in live instrumentation within electronic sets. It reaffirmed my belief in what I do and inspired me to push those boundaries even further.

As an attendee, what would you say sets ADE apart from other global music conferences and festivals?

What really sets ADE apart for me is the depth of its programming. It goes beyond just celebrating Electronic Music; it opens the door to exploring how music intersects with other elements of art, culture, and even nature. One panel that really stood out was Sounds Right, which explored the concept of nature as an artist. It was so refreshing to see a conference that acknowledges and celebrates the broader impact of music, connecting creativity with the natural world and deeper human experiences. ADE doesn’t just focus on what’s happening in the industry now—it also encourages us to think about its future and how we, as artists, can shape it.

Finally, do you think your experience at ADE will impact your work moving forward? If so, how?

Absolutely. My experience at ADE definitely ignited a new wave of inspiration and boosted my confidence. Being surrounded by so much talent and hearing so many innovative ideas made me reflect on my own journey and reminded me of the power of pushing boundaries. The connections I made and the discussions I had will certainly influence my work, especially as I continue blending live instrumentation with Electronic Music. I feel even more driven to experiment with new sounds and approaches while staying true to my vision as an artist. Overall, it was a reminder of the endless possibilities in this space and the importance of embracing creativity in all its forms.
