LESSSS Discusses Her Career and the Significance of Creative Freedom in Modern Hard Techno

French producer LESSSS represents a fresh wave of artists redefining hard techno, emphasizing innovation over conventional sounds. Known for her vibrant presence and unwavering passion for music, she captivates audiences with her energetic performances.

“My sound can be described as high-energy, featuring a blend of drums and vocals that spans from proper shranz to rawstyle, alongside plenty of hard techno,” she shared with EDM Identity. “I’m a developer.”

The dynamic sound of LESSSS reflects Leslie Goldsztejn‘s identity and her artistic vision. “I draw inspiration from styles that encourage listeners to break free from established norms. This ethos is central to my creative process and the music I want to produce,” she expressed.

LESSSS is not just about music; her unique fashion sense, characterized by bold hair colors, oversized clothing, and distinctive makeup, sets her apart. “It’s crucial for people to have something they can associate with you,” she noted. “For me, it’s my hair color and my oversized style.” She prefers authenticity over fleeting trends, which fans appreciate.

Before becoming a celebrated DJ, Leslie was immersed in diverse musical influences during her upbringing. “I’ve always had a special connection with music,” she reflected. While she explored interests like astrophysics, music eventually became her primary focus as she approached graduation and contemplated her career path.

“For me, music was the right answer. I had been producing for two to three years, organizing events in my hometown, and even playing some of my records! I knew it was the right choice.”

LESSSS moved to Paris to study sound engineering, where she discovered her passion for DJing and landed her first gig. This pivotal moment led her to commit fully to her artistic career, which rapidly gained momentum.

“When I realized my project was becoming serious, I felt both happiness and anxiety. I was now making music as a living, not just for fun. It made me question if I’d ever reach the level of the big DJs who inspired me.”

Despite the challenges of this new chapter, LESSSS emphasized the importance of having a supportive network. “The key to keeping my mind clear was being well-surrounded,” she said, crediting her agents, family, and friends for their unwavering support during stressful times.

These vital relationships have been instrumental in her rapid rise within the music scene. While it’s impossible to be fully prepared for such experiences, managing stress and focusing on well-being is essential. “Maintain a healthy lifestyle and concentrate on what makes you feel good,” she advises aspiring artists. “For me, that’s music.”

Today, LESSSS stands at the forefront of a new generation of artists pushing the limits of hard music. She encourages the scene to “never stop experimenting and avoid feeling pressured to conform to norms. This openness can lead to new opportunities and possibly even the creation of new styles!”

Ultimately, she believes that challenging conventions is what keeps the music industry alive. As a musician, her goal is to craft something unique that resonates with audiences. This philosophy is evident in her recent projects, GENESIS and GENESIS EXTENDED.

“This EP was crucial for me as it highlighted my vision for hard techno — a sound infused with energetic vocals and drums, complemented by rock, metal, or even dubstep-inspired breaks! I’m thrilled to have discovered my sound and the music I love to produce!”

With these significant releases, LESSSS is embarking on a new era for her music and style. “I plan to continue on this artistic path and push it as far as I can,” she states. “Expect musical influences that define me as an artist, including rock, metal, and even French rap music in my upcoming releases!”

Genre blending is not a novel concept in dance music, as evidenced by the American Hard Dance scene, which has embraced hybrid genres over the past decade.

Of course, traditionalists in all music genres often resist new styles that deviate from established norms. LESSSS finds herself at the crossroads of hard techno and hard dance today. While elitist listeners may exist, she has carved her niche by embracing evolution and moving forward.

“I’m thrilled about the fusion between these two scenes! It has allowed us to push boundaries and expand our sonic horizons at techno events. Integrating hardstyle and rawstyle sounds has significantly transformed how hard techno tracks are produced, which I find fascinating.”

What was once considered taboo is now celebrated, as hard techno and hard dance artists can share lineups without clash. “Hard techno artists can now perform alongside incredible rawstyle artists, merging two scenes that were previously thought incompatible,” LESSSS observed. This integration fosters progressive events that invite audiences to enjoy familiar genres while discovering new sounds.

“I understand that mixing genres can attract criticism, but I believe music is a unifying force. Blending scenes is the best way to achieve that!”

As 2025 approaches, LESSSS has an array of new music on the way. Her first release of the year will be a remix of a beloved French rap song, which she’s teased during recent performances. Numerous collaborations are also in store. Regarding original content, LESSSS revealed, “My primary goal for 2025 is to concentrate on music production, particularly an EP that will follow GENESIS.”

Apart from her own project, the French artist aims to establish her record label, allowing her to release her music freely while supporting emerging talents who would benefit from increased visibility. Although specific plans are still in development, LESSSS acknowledges that such an endeavor requires careful planning, so fans should expect updates in late 2025 or early 2026.

Despite her success, LESSSS remains grounded, recalling times when she doubted her place in the industry. She encourages fellow artists who may share similar feelings to take that crucial first step in believing in themselves and their projects.

“Many people are doing it, so why not you? Trust yourself and stay true. Music should be a passion and always come from the heart. Follow your ideas and don’t hesitate to experiment. Stay focused on your project, and success will follow!”
