MC4D: Pioneering the Folktronica Sound
In a dance music landscape largely dominated by house and bass subgenres, MC4D has emerged with a refreshing sound that stands apart from the mainstream EDM scene. Drawing inspiration from the burgeoning Americana genre, particularly the country and folk styles exemplified by artists like Zach Bryan and Noah Kahan, MC4D has crafted a unique project that melds the storytelling, instrumentation, and raw energy of these genres with electronic music. Their latest tracks, “Travel On,” an anthem inspired by red-dirt country, and “Wyoming,” an upbeat tune perfect for open-road adventures, form the core of their 7-song EP titled “Wanderings.” No other act in the dance music sphere is fusing folk, country, and electronic elements quite like MC4D, whose powerful beats and catchy melodies evoke the essence of Avicii’s folk-house sound, appealing to both country and folk enthusiasts. With millions of streams already on the “Wanderings” EP and several high-profile collaborations scheduled for early 2025, MC4D is on track to become a frontrunner in the emerging ‘folktronica’ genre, creating something novel in a crowded dance music market.
Reflections on the ‘Wanderings’ EP
“The ‘Wanderings’ EP is a representation of not just the sonic landscape we’ve built with our ‘folktronica’ sound, but also of the many travels we’ve been so lucky to experience in 2024. About a year ago, we made the decision to only release music in 2024 that truly felt like us, combining the indie, folk, country, and electronic genres we pull inspiration from. That led us to develop our folktronica style, ranging from our country-leaning ‘Travel On’ single to folk-leaning single ‘Be Here With Me Now’. We love how the EP encompasses a range of styles, from red-dirt country to Avicii-inspired anthemic folk, while still feeling like a cohesive project. Additionally, we aimed for the songs on the EP to reflect the incredible landscapes we visited in 2024, including Joshua Tree, Banff, the Colorado Rockies, and many more. Our goal is to build a unique brand of dance music that conjures the freedom, openness, and wonder that these places inspire, and our ‘Wanderings’ EP is the first step in that process.” – MC4D
