Multidisciplinary producer HOLLY explores an emotional journey through time with groovy vibes in his latest EP, Minha Vida: Hope.
Minha Vida: Hope marks the concluding chapter of HOLLY‘s innovative EP trilogy, Minha Vida. This seven-track collection, released through HOLLY’s label, iLex Records, follows the earlier parts titled Love and Sadness.
In Portuguese, “minha vida” means “my life.” The Minha Vida concept is intricately tied to the passage of time, intertwining pieces of personal history: the past (Minha Vida: Love), the present (Minha Vida: Sadness), and the future (Minha Vida: Hope).
Hope carries profound emotional and meditative qualities. The EP begins with the uplifting track “In Love We Know Ourselves,” featuring bright synth layers and lively percussion.
The next track, “Lost In This Cold LA,” juxtaposes a rich low end with contemplative drops, evoking feelings of wandering and yearning. Throughout Hope, listeners experience a blend of tranquility and determination, traversing expansive soundscapes while embracing an ethereal vibe.
HOLLY provided insight into the trilogy’s themes, stating it’s “where I explore the past, present, and future sounds of myself while connecting them to a series of emotions that have been surrounding my life experience throughout the last few years.”
Originally from Portugal, HOLLY (real name Miguel Oliveira) is now based in Los Angeles, where he continues to develop his genre-blending sound. He was recognized by DJ Mag and Run the Trap as “one of the top producers of 2017.” Since then, HOLLY has garnered acclaim, winning A-Trak‘s inaugural Goldie Awards and collaborating with notable artists like Zeds Dead and Danny Brown. He kicked off 2024 with a collaboration release alongside REZZ and has performed at prestigious festivals such as Shambhala and Coachella.
Alongside his EP release, he has introduced a video series titled “Hot Potato,” in partnership with Sober Rob. This series features guest producers engaging in fun music production challenges. The inaugural episode showcased trap icons Flosstradamus along with emerging producer Gaszia in an entertaining DJ-focused round of “Hot Potato.”
