Deep Dark & Dangerous Marks a Decade of Dubstep with the Exceptional Decade Compilation.
When discussing the evolution of modern dubstep, Deep Dark & Dangerous is an essential mention. Established a decade ago, this label has become a cornerstone of innovative and hard-hitting dubstep while remaining rooted in the genre’s minimalistic beginnings.
To commemorate its 10th anniversary, Deep Dark & Dangerous presents the first volume of an extraordinary compilation that encapsulates dubstep’s journey over the years. The aptly named Decade features two volumes with a total of 31 tracks and contributions from 38 diverse artists. Volume 2 is set to release on December 13.
Emerging from the underground bass scene, DJ and producer duo Truth launched Deep Dark & Dangerous (DDD) in 2014 after their successful event of the same name. The compilation’s opening track, Truth’s own “The Illuminated,” serves as a compelling introduction to the auditory journey that follows, familiar to fans as it has been featured in many of the duo’s recent performances. This title also reflects DDD’s commitment to showcasing bass music’s hidden talents.
Continuing this tradition, some of the standout moments in Decade come from lesser-known artists who are yet to be discovered by the most dedicated dubstep enthusiasts. In Volume 1, Denver’s Breathworkz makes his DDD debut with the Coki-inspired track “Hydra.” The compilation also highlights newer members of the DDD roster, including Basura, Sling Wave, ASHEZ, and MYTHM. Additionally, there are surprise collaborations from earlier contributors like Sectra and Mesck , the latter of whom designed the cover art for this release.
Even the most recognized names on the Decade tracklist often collaborate with emerging talents. For instance, Youngsta and Boylan join forces with Brassic for the playful opening track of Volume 2, titled “Don’t Steal My Pint.” Furthermore, Bukez Finezt partners with Mode London DJ Sentient on “Kolloide.”
Decade also honors fellow community creators. In Volume 2, The Widdler delivers a quintessential track titled “Gom Jabber.” “Sea Wolf” marks Drumterror’s debut on DDD, although the artist has long been a fixture in the UK scene and manages the popular Facebook group Shitty Tune Share For Us Wastes Who Like Dubstep.
Pre-order both volumes of Decade in digital and vinyl formats on Bandcamp, and look forward to the release of Volume 2 from Deep Dark & Dangerous on December 13.
