Four months after the sudden passing of Danielle Moore from the disco and funk band Crazy P, her family has released a statement regarding her cause of death.
In August 2024, Danielle Moore, the lead singer of Crazy P, tragically passed away at the age of 52 under circumstances described by the band as “sudden and tragic.” The family has now disclosed that the coroner’s report determined her death was a result of suicide.
On August 30, Moore was struck by a train in King’s Heath, Birmingham. The coroner noted that her transition into menopause had a “more than minimal impact” on her mental health, which was further strained by Crazy P’s demanding summer tour schedule.
In a family statement, her husband, James Ensell, expressed, “While this conclusion was anticipated, it remains difficult to accept. We are still grappling with her loss and cannot fathom that she is gone.”
He continued, “Though we may never fully understand why Danielle chose to end her life, we are certain that her death does not reflect the person she was in life. Danielle was deeply compassionate and concerned for the wellbeing of others and the planet. She was troubled by social injustices and the effects of consumerism. An empath at heart, she was instinctively caring and loyal, forging genuine connections with those around her. She embodied human kindness and generosity.”
Ensell also mentioned that Moore had previously navigated through two significant episodes of mental health challenges, eventually reclaiming her desire to live after enduring what felt like insurmountable struggles. He emphasized the need for awareness regarding the “neurological and psychiatric symptoms” that may occur during perimenopause. “If any positive outcome can emerge from Danielle’s tragic death, it may be a greater understanding of the effects perimenopause can have on women’s mental health,” he stated.
Originally from outside Manchester, Danielle Moore frequented the city’s famous dance music venue, The Haçienda, from the age of 18. She joined Crazy P in 2002, and the band gained significant recognition with their 2008 album Stop Space Return released through 20/20 Vision Recordings.
Following Moore’s passing, Crazy P halted their touring activities but returned in November with the album Any Signs Of Love, which had been completed prior to her death and is dedicated to her memory.
