DJ trio Levity had to abruptly end their performance at Radius Chicago after a support beam fell from the ceiling, resulting in minor injuries to two concertgoers.
Two attendees of Radius Chicago experienced minor injuries when an object fell from the ceiling, prompting Levity to terminate their set early in the early hours of the morning.
An eyewitness, who mentioned he was “standing right next to the girl that got hit by the falling beam,” described the scene in a Facebook post. “It was traumatic,” he noted. “I’m praying for her, hopefully she’ll be alright.”
According to the Chicago Police Department, the incident occurred just before 1:30 AM. A 29-year-old man, who reported pain in his shoulder and neck, along with a 26-year-old woman suffering a laceration, were both transported to Stroger Hospital for treatment.
In the comments section, another concertgoer shared a video purportedly taken after the incident, showcasing the beam and debris scattered on the floor of the venue.
Levity issued a statement on their Instagram Story, expressing regret for having to cut the set short. “We’re really sorry we had to cut the set short tonight. Something from the venue fell from the roof, and the Fire Marshall needed the set to stop early so they could inspect the venue. It was a freak accident, but safety is our first priority, so we’re taking extra caution.”
This was not the first instance of a ceiling collapse injuring attendees at an EDM event. In 2014, four individuals were injured by falling debris during a performance by Datsik at Chicago’s Concord Music Hall. More recently, Brennan Heart had to forgo his set entirely when ceiling tiles fell, injuring two patrons at Exchange LA.
As of now, Radius Chicago has not responded to an inquiry from EDM Identity regarding additional details about the fallen ceiling beam, including whether the scheduled event headlined by Malaa will proceed as planned.
