Four Tet and Ellie Goulding's collaboration

Four Tet and Ellie Goulding have joined forces once again for their latest track, ‘In My Dreams’. Released via Three Six Zero Recordings, this song is a sequel collaboration following Ellie Goulding’s contribution to Four Tet’s track, ‘Baby’, from his 2020 album, Sixteen Oceans. Moreover, this release follows Four Tet’s remix of Ellie Goulding’s ‘Easy Lover’ in 2022, which garnered him a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Remixed Recording’. According to Pitchfork, the production journey for this track began with Ellie Goulding reaching out to Four Tet with song ideas and notes at the end of last year.

This past weekend, the track is now available, showcasing a captivating rhythmic loop that complements the stereo-enhancing bass perfectly. These distinctive sounds blend seamlessly with the percussive elements of bells and chimes, alongside Goulding’s powerful vocals. The combination of her vocals and the percussion truly establishes the mood of the track. Four Tet Explains the Creation of ‘In My Dreams’

Four Tet shares insights on how he collaborated with Ellie Goulding on ‘In My Dreams’, stating, “At the end of last year, Ellie texted me with a couple of voice notes for a song idea. She sent words and melodies she recorded and asked if I could transform them into something special. In the past, she’s mentioned that she enjoys giving me vocals that I can manipulate creatively (which is precisely how the track ‘Baby’ was made a few years ago). I then incorporated other sounds along with her voice to create ‘In My Dreams’“.

She introduced some new vocal sections, but we ultimately decided to retain the original voice note recordings as the principal vocal track. I believe the first take often has the most magic in it.
