Could Partiboi69 Be a Bad Influence on Skream?

What happens when a legendary dubstep artist transitions to house music and teams up with a dynamic dance music figure? The answer lies in the track “Pound Town,” released on HARD Recs, born from the collaboration between Skream and Partiboi69.

“Pound Town” features a high tempo and the cheeky ghetto house lyrics that Partiboi69 is famous for, guaranteed to energize any dance floor. Skream, whose real name is Oliver Jones, infuses his unique production style, giving the single a lasting appeal that goes beyond its initial comedic essence.

Introducing Skream and Partiboi69

Oliver Jones became a prominent figure in the UK dubstep scene in the early 2000s, gaining recognition as a teenager with dubplates that received significant support from Hatcha. He collaborated closely with Benga, another influential artist, and rose to international fame as dubstep gained popularity worldwide. In 2013, he declared that he would cease playing dubstep, stating, “the movement is over.”

In contrast, Partiboi69’s ascent came later. Based in Melbourne, he initially performed under the name Stingray before rebranding as Partiboi69 in 2018. His project gained tremendous momentum during the pandemic, and by the time nightlife reopened, he was celebrated for his provocative humor and exceptional DJing skills.

The two artists forged a friendship in 2020, with Jones appearing in Partiboi69’s Live From The Stingzone mix series the following year. Partiboi69 also made appearances at Skreamizm events, and the duo recorded “Pound Town” at Insomniac’s LA studios during the two weekends of Coachella 2024.
