Originating from Edinburgh, UK, Barry Can’t Swim is a groundbreaking artist known for his distinctive sound that stands out in the music landscape. With his remarkable EP, Amor Fati, and the vibrant club anthem “Kimbara,” he has been revitalizing the electronic music scene with influences spanning Afrobeat, house, and jazz. As he meticulously curates his artistic endeavors, Barry Can’t Swim is gearing up for the release of his new album, Loner, which will be available on July 11 through Ninja Tune.
While his debut album, Where Will We Land, was shaped by external inspirations, Loner reflects an introspective dive into his personal experiences. Barry aims to provide listeners with an authentic and heartfelt glimpse into his journey as an artist.
In an Instagram post announcing the album, Barry Can’t Swim shared, “If my first album was a collage of all the music I loved and was inspired by growing up, then this album is the most genuine reflection I could offer of myself and my life over the past year. I feel incredibly fortunate to create music for a living and to have the opportunity to dedicate my efforts to writing this album. It truly is a dream.”
To give fans a taste of what’s to come, Barry Can’t Swim has released the new single, “Different.” This track quickly became a fan favorite, featuring powerful, distorted drums that create an energetic dancefloor vibe.
This release follows less than a week after Barry Can’t Swim surprised fans with the opening track “The Person You’d Like To Be,” which showcases layered dialogues, punchy drum programming, and distorted vocals.
Barry Can’t Swim is also preparing for a series of highly anticipated performances across major North American cities, including stops in Boston, Toronto, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and a special three-night event in New York City. He will be joined by an exciting lineup of guest artists such as Anish Kumar, Beewack, Paula Tape, Laurence Guy, and Chaos in the CBD, each bringing their unique flair to the performances.
