EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
What inspired you to combine house, funk, groove, brass, and Latin sounds in “Quinte & Sens”?
The blend of various sounds reflects my diverse musical influences. My journey began with acoustic instruments, and discovering electronic music later made it clear that combining these styles creates vibrant, groovy sounds within a contemporary electronic framework.
As an artist merging different genres, what’s your creative process like when starting a new project?
I typically begin by crafting an acoustic melody—using samples or brass—and then layer it with electronic or house arrangements to give it a modern touch.
The track “Bailalo” featuring Mr. Planteur stands out. What was behind its creation and collaboration?
This track came together in Cap d’Agde, immersed in nature and sunshine. While searching for a sample, we discovered a captivating voice, and the brass line flowed naturally, setting the tone!
What significant challenges have you faced in your career so far, and how did you address them?
My greatest challenge has been creating music that strikes a balance between being too “commercial” and too “underground.” Coming from both worlds, I continually strive to unify these elements in a way that resonates with a diverse audience.
You collaborated with eight artists on this EP. How did these collaborations shape the sound of “Quinte & Sens”?
I had the fortune of working with a range of singers, rappers, composers, and musicians. My goal was to weave a cohesive narrative despite the diverse ideas each collaborator brought forth.
What qualities do you seek in a collaborator, and how do you maintain a cohesive sound?
While I handle specific instruments well, there are times when my ideas exceed my abilities, and collaboration broadens my creative landscape. Working with others enhances my discovery of new musical realms; it’s a profoundly enriching experience.
The EP is designed for enjoyment from sunset to dawn. How did you curate the track flow for this immersive experience?
The tracks progress from mellow to vibrant, culminating in rhythmic intensity. The objective was to craft a musical journey that reflects various emotions while consistently focusing on groove and brass.
How do you balance preserving your unique sound while also evolving as an artist?
When starting a musical project, you outline its path, but those lines are expected to shift over time. My extensive network has influenced my artistic identity, which now intertwines groove with electro-house. My evolution is also shaped by new connections I make along the way.
In what ways does “Quinte & Sens” connect with or differ from your debut album “Oxymore,” and what new elements have you introduced?
While “Oxymore” emphasized contrasting electro and orchestral elements, my latest work leans more into a groovy, upbeat vibe while retaining classic electro-brass contrasts.
Looking ahead, what are your aspirations as an artist, and what can fans anticipate from you in the future?
The “Quinte & Sens” EP has inspired a forthcoming live project that embodies this vibrant electro-groove atmosphere, which we plan to showcase across France. Keep an eye out for our stage performances! The final track, “Night in Amsterdam,” may hint at future projects to come.
