Discover the Adventure: Solo Traveling to Electric Forest
If your favorite artists were performing in a magical forest 2,000 miles away and you didn’t have anyone to go with, would you still make the journey? Absolutely! When the music calls, we must respond, and Electric Forest is calling your name.
This year’s festival lineup is nothing short of spectacular, featuring some of the biggest names in electronic dance music. Headliners include Justice, Tiësto, Disclosure, FISHER, and, of course, The String Cheese Incident. Plus, expect thrilling performances from Sara Landry, WORSHIP (featuring Sub Focus, Dimension, Culture Shock, and 1991), Of The Trees, Louis The Child, and the addition of over 40 additional artists to an already impressive lineup.
Electric Forest is enchanting not only for its music but also for its diverse offerings. Attendees can immerse themselves in the Dream Emporium, stretch out at yoga sessions, enjoy a silent disco, or embark on a scavenger hunt through the woods.
Electric Forest’s allure is undeniable. The pull to attend becomes irresistible, transforming the hypothetical into reality. The curiosity of the unknown fuels life’s adventures. Here’s your solo traveler’s guide to Electric Forest.

Traveling to Electric Forest: Fly and Rent a Vehicle
Many of my friends have taken road trips to Electric Forest from various parts of the country. Some spent days on the road, while others only traveled a few hours. This approach to the festival offers a sense of adventure and flexibility, but I find flying and renting a vehicle to be the easier option.
I recommend booking a roundtrip, nonstop flight to Grand Rapids, Michigan, the nearest airport to Rothbury. If that’s not feasible, the next closest airports are in Chicago, Detroit, and Indianapolis. A rental truck is ideal for comfort and protection against any unpredictable weather.
I typically travel with a carry-on and one checked bag, ensuring I pack essential items like a tent, sleeping bag, stove, clothes, tarps, toiletries, electronics, and other festival necessities.
Upon landing and picking up the rental truck, my first stop is Wal-Mart for last-minute supplies such as a canopy, cooler, food, and drinks before entering the festival.
I plan to eat once a day while at the festival, keeping snacks and light meals at camp. Any leftover items can be donated or returned after the event. With everything organized, the rest of the journey is smooth sailing.
The Adventure Begins at Electric Forest
A short drive north from Grand Rapids brings you to Electric Forest in Rothbury, Michigan! The freedom to camp wherever you like, connect with whom you choose, see the music you want, and explore at your own pace enhances the festival experience.
Traveling solo fosters a unique sense of community. Even when I found myself far from home, in a forest in an unfamiliar state, I rarely felt alone.

I was welcomed by a wonderful group of online friends who quickly became my festival family. They say, “The Forest provides,” and I experienced that firsthand. The Sherwood Forest radiates a unique energy, and as a solo traveler, that magic reveals itself in countless ways. Connecting with fellow festival-goers made me forget I was alone, allowing for shared moments of joy while still cherishing my solitude.
If you’re considering attending Electric Forest solo, numerous resources can help guide you. Platforms like Facebook and Reddit have rich discussions and valuable information. Electric Forest has even launched a new initiative called Camp Wayfinder, designed specifically for solo adventurers to bond with like-minded individuals and experience the festival within a supportive community. As long as you make it to Electric Forest, you can rest assured you won’t be alone.
This year, as I prepare to attend Electric Forest solo once again, I’m excited to fully immerse myself in the experience.
When you let go of the fear of the unknown and embrace the adventure, a whole new path unfolds before you. New experiences and opportunities that once seemed out of reach become accessible. Crafting your own adventure becomes boundless in its possibilities.
A solo festival journey at Electric Forest opens up endless opportunities! With the magic of music, art, and nature, I eagerly await this year’s unforgettable experiences.
If you’re hesitating about attending, I highly recommend taking the plunge! Even if it means embarking on a solo adventure.
