Renowned US rapper Fatman Scoop has tragically passed away at the age of 53 after collapsing during a live concert in Connecticut. The incident occurred while he was performing at Town Center Park in Hamden, as confirmed by his representative to the BBC.
Mayor Lauren Garrett expressed her condolences in a Facebook post, noting that the beloved artist was quickly transported to a nearby hospital.
His booking agency, MN2S, released a statement mourning his loss and stating that Fatman Scoop’s “legacy will live on through his timeless music.”
“Scoop was a cherished figure in the music industry, adored by fans worldwide,” said an agency spokesperson. “His unique voice, energetic performance style, and charismatic personality made a lasting impression in hip hop.”
In heartfelt social media tributes, Fatman Scoop’s family described him as “a radiant soul, a beacon of light both on stage and in life.”
“FatMan Scoop was not just a world-class performer; he was a father, brother, uncle, and friend. He brought laughter into our lives and was a constant source of unwavering support and strength,” his family added.
Born Isaac Freeman III, Scoop was a significant figure in New York City’s hip hop scene during the 1990s. He gained fame through his collaborations on hit songs such as the Grammy award-winning “Lose Control” by Missy Elliott and “It’s Like That” by Mariah Carey. Scoop’s sleeper hit “Be Faithful,” originally launched in 1999, achieved global success in 2003, topping charts in both Ireland and the UK.
