Floating Points Releases New Dance Music Album ‘Cascade’: A Rave-Ready Return to Electronic Beats

News

After a few years exploring various musical endeavors, including orchestral performances and composing for ballet, Floating Points has returned to his dance music origins. His latest album, Cascade, positions the UK producer back in the vibrant, dark dancefloors where club music flourishes.

Though Cascade features just 9 tracks, it has an impressive runtime of almost an hour. This extended format provides Floating Points the opportunity to truly delve into intricate concepts within each piece. The track “Ocotillo” exemplifies this beautifully. It begins with delicate, ethereal harpsichord melodies, transitioning into a captivating second act that introduces a rising synth motif while gradually increasing the BPM. By the time listeners reach the third act at about the six-minute mark, the track has transformed entirely into a glitchy, breaks-heavy techno piece, strikingly different from its opening. Yet, this evolution feels entirely cohesive.

As a conceptual work, Cascade embodies the marathon rhythm of a rave, presenting serene interludes that allow listeners and dancers to ground themselves before catapulting them back into the euphoric depths of driving beats.

This album is a must-listen. Be sure to check it out below. Enjoy!
