Ohio’s Severe Drought Forces Pyrotechnics Ban at Lost Lands Festival
Safety remains a top priority for Excision and the Lost Lands team, especially as this year’s festival approaches. In light of the significant drought affecting Ohio, the State Fire Marshal has put stringent restrictions in place, banning various activities and elements that could ignite a fire hazard next weekend.
Sadly, this means no fireworks displays or the signature pyro effects from the stage, a cherished staple of Lost Lands. The ban extends to attendees as well, prohibiting smoking (though vaporizers are permitted) and any outdoor cooking that involves open flames or propane. However, RVs equipped with electric stoves may use them inside their vehicles.
This year, strict enforcement of fire lane regulations will be in effect, so ensure that tents, shade canopies, and other items are within your designated camping area. Attendees are also reminded not to leave their vehicles idling at their campsites.
Food vendors at Lost Lands will need to comply with specific safety requirements, including having water trucks on-site, a gravel floor, accessible fire extinguishers, and heightened monitoring throughout the event.
“We’re disappointed by the challenges posed by the drought and wish it were different,” shared Lost Lands in their official statement. “While we can’t control the environment, we’re excited to deliver an incredible festival experience for you. We can’t wait to welcome everyone in just a few days!”
Lost Lands is scheduled to take place at Legend Valley, Ohio, from September 20-22, with campgrounds opening on Tuesday, September 17. Stay tuned for further updates regarding this year’s festivities.
