Recently, the world of dance music faced a heartbreaking loss with the death of Fatman Scoop, one of its most iconic rappers. Scoop, known for his energetic collaborations on numerous EDM tracks, such as Hardwell’s hit ‘Don’t Stop The Madness’, tragically collapsed during a concert in Connecticut. The state’s medical examiner has now revealed the cause of death for the beloved rapper and hype man.
On September 25th, the Connecticut Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Scoop, whose real name was Isaac Freeman III, died due to hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Importantly, it was established that no foul play was involved. He passed away at the age of 56 at Town Center Park in Hamden, leaving a notable impact on the EDM community.
Emergency responders provided chest compressions to Freeman behind the DJ booth before he was rushed to a nearby hospital. Hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease results from high blood pressure and the hardening of arteries that supply essential oxygen and nutrients from the heart to the body. Factors contributing to this condition include high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, and smoking.
On September 12th, friends, family, and fans gathered at the Apollo Theater near the Harlem projects, where Scoop grew up, to pay their respects. Notable artists like Teddy Riley, Jim Jones, A$AP Ferg, Busta Rhymes, Kid Kapri, LL Cool J, and Angie Martinez honored his memory during this tribute.
