We’re thrilled to celebrate 25 years since the inaugural mix compilation took the world by storm, leading us to the twentieth edition of ‘In Search Of Sunrise’. For this landmark celebration, Black Hole Recordings has delivered an astounding six-mix collection that truly honors the legacy of the series.
A bit of history before we delve into the latest release! On October 10th, 1999, DJ Tiësto launched the first ‘In Search Of Sunrise,’ entering a vibrant compilation landscape with high expectations. Its success exceeded those expectations, resulting in Tiësto mixing a total of seven editions before moving on.
In 2010, the series was rejuvenated under the guidance of Richard Durand, a former protégé of Tiësto, who offered six editions and introduced a collaborative mixing approach. During his time, the series highlighted musical journeys through India, South Africa, and Amsterdam before taking a well-deserved three-year break in 2015.
In 2018, Markus Schulz took the helm of the series, successfully reviving its spirit while eliminating the geographical constraints but maintaining the collaborative essence. With ‘In Search Of Sunrise 20,’ he marks his seventh appearance, equaling Tiësto’s legacy. The collaborative approach has invited many notable artists such as Gabriel & Dresden, Andy Moor, Jerome Isma-Ae, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Kyau & Albert , and Ilan Bluestone to contribute.
As we approach late summer 2024, Black Hole unveiled their plans for this landmark release. Solarstone kicked off the mixer lineup, followed weekly by Johan Gielen’s Airscape, Super8 & Tab, York, ZOYA, and of course, Markus Schulz.
Among the highlights of this impressive collection of over 100 tracks, it’s difficult to choose favorites. However, significant moments within the mixes stand out, such as York starting his mix with ‘Reachers Of Civilisation’ … a fantastic nod to Tiësto’s opening 25 years earlier! His choice to close with ‘Farewell to the Moon’ is perhaps the most quintessentially ‘In Search Of Sunrise’ title ever. Markus caps off his contribution with his unreleased 2019 ISOS remix of Accadia’s stirring ‘Into the Dawn.’ Additionally, Solarstone invokes nostalgia with ‘Solarcoaster’ and Super8 & Tab revisit ‘Helsinki Scorchin’ – significant tracks from the third and fourth editions! Plus, the connections Markus and ZOYA make to Chicane resonate deeply within the ISOS legacy. The celebration could continue indefinitely, yet at its essence, ‘In Search Of Sunrise 20’ encompasses 6 DJs, 100+ tracks, 450+ musical minutes, all wrapped in the rich tapestry of 25 years of electronic music history.
The album is now available for pre-order in multiple formats, including a six-disc box set, a six-mix digital release, triple vinyl, and streaming on all prominent platforms.
