DJ Awards 2024 Celebrates Incredible Artists Like FISHER, Keinemusik, and Armin van Buuren
This year, the spotlight was on the DJ Awards as the much-awaited ceremony made its return after a significant four-year break. Under the new direction of Andy Grant and hosted at the stunning Club Chinois, excitement filled the air for this new chapter of the awards. Relaunching an event after such a long hiatus is a daring move, yet it proved immensely successful. Established in 1998 by José Pascual and Lenny Krarup, the DJ Awards have a rich history that now embraces its next phase. With Katie Knight and BBC Radio 1’s Jaguar as hosts, the atmosphere was electric, and we were there to experience every moment.
Regarded as the Oscars of the electronic music world, the DJ Awards had significant expectations to meet following its revival, and a fresh visual identity greatly assisted in setting the tone. The event took place at Club Chinois, a glamorous venue located on Ibiza’s Marina that opened its doors in 2022, attracting prominent figures in the music scene.
In addition to recognizing the most popular DJs across various genres, the DJ Awards spotlighted outstanding industry talents and achievements through specialized industry awards. Notably, Michael Bibi was awarded the Play It Back award for his ‘One Life’ campaign aimed at supporting The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
“I feel very blessed and lucky to be here in general. Life took an unexpected turn last year, and it was a tough year, but we pulled through. The main takeaway was the love and support from everyone in this room and around the world. It truly demonstrated the strength of our community and what can be accomplished when we unite and never give up.“
Recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to Ibiza’s vibrant scene, the Ibiza Icon award presented by Ibiza Global Radio, was awarded to Luciano, an artist renowned for performing at nearly every venue across the island, including local prisons. Additionally, the Lifetime Achievement Award celebrated Javier Anadon, the mastermind behind Cafe Mambo, which he established in 1994 and continues to manage alongside his sons Christian and Alan (the Mambo Brothers).
Rampa graced the stage not just once but twice, proudly representing both himself and Keinemusik. He won the award for Ibiza Track of the Summer for his collaboration with Stryv and Malachiii titled ‘Move‘. Keinemusik also received the What’s Hot Global award for their outstanding accomplishments over the past year, with Rampa playfully recreating Kanye West’s famous speech.
Continuing with the industry awards, the title of Ibiza Party of the Summer was awarded to David Guetta, recognized for hosting two parties concurrently for multiple years including F*** Me I’m Famous! at Ushuaïa and Future Rave at Hï Ibiza. The Global Festival award went to Defected Croatia, while the Eye on… USA title was given to Gospel New York.
In recognition of the DJs excelling in their own genres and enhancing the scene as a whole, FISHER received the prestigious International DJ award, expressing gratitude towards Luciano for inspiring his journey as a DJ and producer.
“I started DJing because of Luciano. I remember watching him at Sven Väth’s party at Amnesia during the closing of COCOON, and thinking ‘that guy is controlling the crowd like no other – I want to do that,’ so I love you, Luciano.”
