Kasablanca Soars Higher with the Release of Higher Resolution (Side A), Their Debut Album
Kasablanca burst onto the scene in 2020, embodying an air of intrigue. With initial tracks released on This Never Happened and mau5trap, the duo began to make waves, yet it was Anjunabeats that truly allowed them to thrive. However, their journey encountered a challenge when frontman Micky was diagnosed with cancer. This news brought their ascent momentarily to a halt, but it did not hinder the emergence of their emotionally charged soundscapes.
Upon Micky’s announcement of being in remission, the celebration began. They ramped up their live performances and have now unveiled their debut album, Higher Resolution (Side A). Released via Anjunabeats, this album delivers an impressive depth while maintaining a strong dancefloor appeal, making the live experience even more exhilarating.
“Remission,” featuring Lane 8, set the stage for the Higher Resolution festivities earlier this summer, standing out as one of the album’s premier tracks. Subsequent singles “Terminal Feeling” and “Daydream” with anamē showcased their diverse musicality, while “Breathe” offered a rejuvenating take on the classic hit by The Prodigy. Each of these vibrant tracks embodies the energetic essence of Kasablanca, with even more sonic explorations waiting on Side A.
The title track envelops listeners in a blend of synths, modulated vocals, and enchanting elements, creating an ambiance akin to dancing with robots in a digital dream. “side effects” emerges next, presenting a laid-back vibe perfect for nocturnal city drives, seamlessly transitioning into the dynamically robotic “Clarity.” The energetic beat features electro intricacies and ascending chords, complemented by spoken-word vocals that keep listeners engaged as if riding a conveyor belt through a factory.
The concluding tracks, “Dawn” and “Kosmos,” highlight Kasablanca’s multifaceted artistry. “Dawn” takes listeners on an emotional voyage with its soaring vocals and melodic highlights, granting a sensation of weightlessness. Conversely, “Kosmos” kicks off with modulated vocals, leading to a breakbeat that ignites a powerful, dance-ready groove, making you question the dimension you’ve entered. “inner_mission” serves as a companion to the intro, “innit,” setting the stage for what’s anticipated in Side B, so keep listening closely for that.
