The Hero’s Journey Scholarship: A Gateway for the Next Generation of Music Innovators

NGHTMRE‘s ascent to the forefront of EDM began at ICON Collective. Now, the renowned DJ and producer has partnered with this Los Angeles-based music school to establish The Hero’s Journey Scholarship, which will provide three talented artists with an invaluable opportunity.

The hero’s journey is a powerful framework for captivating storytelling, encompassing character archetypes and a specific sequence of events. This concept resonates with musicians today, as creating compelling content is essential in the age of social media.

“A decade ago, when I first came to ICON Collective and learned about the hero’s journey concept, it deeply inspired me,” shared NGHTMRE (real name Tyler Marenyi) in his announcement. “I witnessed it unfold in my own life and in the lives of others, and it has continuously fueled my music and creativity.”

Marenyi’s collaboration with ICON Collective will award full scholarships to three selected individuals. To qualify, applicants must submit a two-minute video detailing their five-year plan, a backup plan, their passion for music, and what sets them apart, among other criteria.

The submission deadline is December 6, with winners to be notified and announced by the year’s end. Non-ICON alumni aged 17 and older are eligible to apply. Awardees can choose from programs starting in January, April, July, or October 2025. To enroll in ICON Collective courses, students need to have access to a Mac laptop, Ableton Live 12, Pro Tools Studio for EDU, headphones, and a MIDI keyboard.

If you’re uncertain about how to begin your journey as a DJ and producer, ICON Collective’s The Hero’s Journey Scholarship could be the perfect opportunity. You might just become the next NGHTMRE.
