Adventure Club: Achieving the Impossible in Music and Beyond

News

We sat down with Adventure Club at Escape Halloween to discuss their decade-long career, future endeavors, and more!

Any true bass music enthusiast has encountered Adventure Club, the dynamic duo from Montreal, consisting of Leighton James and Christian Srigley. From their early 2010s dubstep remixes of hits like “Daisy” by Brand New and “Collect Call” by Metric to their recent collaborations with Jessica Audiffred on “HERO” and Bear Grillz on “Play the Game,” their music has proven to withstand the test of time. As they perform at shows globally, fans eagerly anticipate their unique, emotion-driven sound that delivers a powerful experience.

Their journey has brought them to festivals such as Das Energi, Beyond Wonderland at The Gorge, EDC Las Vegas, and Forbidden Kingdom in recent times. With a packed schedule of festival and club performances, we were excited to connect with them before their set at Escape Halloween this year.

When asked if they planned to include any special Halloween edits or remixes in their Escape set, Leighton shared that the duo are “big horror and thriller fans.” “We enjoy incorporating obscure references into our sets,” he explained. “We do it for the maybe ten people in the crowd who’ll get them and go wild. Aside from that, we’ll feature a lot of new school Adventure Club, along with a few throwbacks.”

Exploring the themes of duality in their music, Adventure Club has consistently bridged the gap between “old school” and “new school” sounds. Tracks like LOVE // CHAOS, “Death or Glory,” and “Heroes and Villains” embody this central aspect of their artistry.

Reflecting on their musical journey, Adventure Club shared insights about their future direction. “When we began creating music, our goal was to produce the most aggressive dubstep possible, paired with a playful name like ‘Adventure Club,’” Leighton noted.

There’s always two sides of a story, like two sides of a coin. We lean towards the melodic side, but we also love the heavy stuff and strive to find a balance between the two, allowing them to interact. This has always been part of our narrative.

Following their recent collaboration with Bear Grillz and Craig Mabbitt from Escape the Fate, Adventure Club expressed their shared passion for emo music. “We’ve always been fans of that band. When we had the chance to work with Craig, everything fell into place beautifully… It took about six months to finalize the song as we worked online, exchanging files,” Leighton explained.

Their collaborative spirit extends further, as Adventure Club recently performed a back-to-back set with Sullivan King at Dancefestopia in Kansas. Interestingly, they did not prepare for this performance ahead of time.

“It was completely spontaneous. We didn’t rehearse anything beforehand… we simply met at the festival and said ‘What’s up, let’s do this,’” he shared. The crowd loved the set, which featured a seamless mix of bass genres and heavier sounds, complemented by surprising melodic edits from Sullivan King.

Shifting focus to personal life, we congratulated Christian on becoming a new father. As he embraces this new chapter, he reflected on how it influences his musical journey with Adventure Club. “We grew up in a band and played guitar… Now, I find myself engaging with physical instruments more because I love making music around my baby girl,” Christian expressed. He noted that he has gained “a new perspective on the actual instrumentality again and getting back into that analog feel.”

With a career spanning over ten years and no signs of slowing down, it’s clear that Adventure Club remains a significant force in the EDM scene. They have cultivated a dedicated fanbase, performed at some of the world’s largest festivals, and even received a Grammy nomination for their remix of Kehlani’s “Undercover.” Their achievements have exceeded their initial expectations.

“We launched this project without any major expectations. To reach this level and receive the accolades we have is beyond anything we imagined… I believe we’ve accomplished everything and more than we thought was achievable as Adventure Club,” Leighton reflected. “We hope our music continues to resonate with fans for years to come, and we will perform at festivals until we can no longer do so.”

We’ve surpassed the ten-year mark on several of our releases, and witnessing music we created so long ago still resonate with fans today is a refreshing perspective for us. We’re considering doing a few more throwback sets as we move into next year.
