Caspa Discusses Dubstep’s Evolution and B2TU XL Ahead of Denver Show
When discussing the pioneers of dubstep, Caspa undeniably deserves a prominent mention. He played a crucial role in shaping the genre’s early sound through Dub Police and released tracks that propelled dubstep into the mainstream. For over 20 years, he has remained a steadfast advocate for the genre.
In 2024, Caspa took the stage at major festivals like EDC Las Vegas, Lost Lands, and Submersion, and showcased remarkable back-to-back performances with fellow dubstep icon Rusko at Apocalypse Zombieland and the 15 Years of UKF at Drumsheds. As he kicks off 2025, he is setting his sights on one of his favorite US cities, Denver.
Caspa has long regarded Denver as a second home, noting as early as 2014 that it was among the most vibrant places in America. In 2019, he launched a five-week residency at The Black Box, where his signature show, Back 2 The Underground (B2TU), was conceived. “Every week had a lineup curated by my team and me,” Caspa explained about the inception of the show. “It’s about showcasing quality dubstep in a space that feels authentic—a small, dark venue with an exceptional sound system, keeping it simple and grounded.”
On January 4, Caspa will help Denver ring in 2025 with a powerful dubstep experience at the latest edition of B2TU. This year’s B2TU at Mission Ballroom carries the XL label, but Caspa emphasizes that the essence remains unchanged: “It’s the same concept but in a larger venue with an expanded lineup.”
This edition of B2TU may provide insight into the future of dubstep, but with the genre’s ever-evolving landscape, the possibilities are limitless. “Who knows,” Caspa mused about the next five years in dubstep. “People have been asking me these questions since 17 years ago when we released fabric live 37 with Rusko and 20 years ago when I started Dub Police. I never imagined I’d be headlining the largest show in Denver in 2025. I’ve worked tirelessly and manifested this moment for quite some time.”
While Caspa’s B2TU show is approaching, he has more in store for 2025. “I have a plethora of new music lined up for release this year, including a collaboration single with Ternion Sound coming out on January 31 via Bassrush,” he revealed as our conversation drew to a close. “Additionally, I’m working on new tracks with MYTHM, PEEKABOO, and Distinct Motive.”
Last-minute tickets for B2TU at Mission Ballroom are available now through AXS. Don’t miss this opportunity if you’re a dubstep fan, and be sure to follow Caspa on his social media for updates on upcoming releases and more this year.
