Tragic Incident at Pinkfish Countdown 2024 in Selangor, Malaysia: Four Lives Lost


Selangor, Malaysia is facing scrutiny after the untimely deaths of four individuals who attended the Pinkfish Countdown festival.

The victims, two men and two women aged between 20 and 40, died following their attendance at the electronic dance music (EDM) event on December 31. According to Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan, all four are believed to have consumed ecstasy, but toxicology tests are pending to establish the exact cause of death. The festival organizers confirmed that the fatalities occurred offsite, as stated by the Royal Malaysian Police.

Additionally, three attendees were hospitalized with symptoms that the police indicated were similar to those experienced by the deceased. While the nature of these symptoms was not disclosed, authorities emphasized that the incidents were unrelated. An investigation is underway to determine if drug contamination or other criminal activities contributed to the situation.

In the aftermath of Pinkfish Countdown, social media was flooded with videos depicting festival-goers collapsing. A viral post by TikTok user CineMagicMY has reached 2.6 million views as of now.

In response to the incident, the festival organizers released a statement expressing their sorrow: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident following Pinkfish Countdown 2024 which resulted in the loss of four lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the four individuals during this difficult time.”

The statement further reassured the public about the safety measures in place for the event: “While we await the outcome of the full investigations into this incident, we wish to reassure the public that every precaution has been taken to ensure the safety of our events, including Pinkfish Countdown 2024. These measures include, among others, the presence of more than 100 police officers and the deployment of trained security personnel and K9 units at all entrance points.”

Pinkfish Countdown featured performances from international artists like Sara Landry and Showtek, alongside local talents such as Hades, Zerofloat, and Mr Yang, drawing an audience of over 18,000 attendees.
