The BPM Festival Costa Rica Faces Early Shutdown and Event Cancellations
The BPM Festival Costa Rica has hit a major snag in 2025. Last night, organizers were compelled to halt all scheduled events in the beach town of Tamarindo. Consequently, three planned gatherings for Thursday were unable to proceed as intended.
In a recent Instagram Story, The BPM Festival’s team announced they were “investigating the sudden closure of all our events last night,” assuring festival-goers that they still anticipated the box office opening at 3pm local time. However, their plans continued to evolve, and today’s events at Tabu Beach Club and Ocho Beach Club were also canceled, with the box office remaining closed past the expected reopening time.
“We are currently collaborating closely with local communities and government officials to find a path forward,” stated the organizers in their afternoon Instagram update. “The box office will stay closed until further notice as we work toward a resolution. This festival is incredibly important to us, and we are committed to providing you with the experience you deserve. Please stay tuned for updates.”
As the evening approached, The BPM Festival Costa Rica was set to resume — with some conditions. According to an Instagram post from the organizers, events at The Alley and Central Tamarindo would still take place as scheduled, but the Deep Roots Showcase at El Moro was canceled.
Organizers attributed this cancellation to “reasons beyond our control,” emphasizing their ongoing efforts to work with local authorities, venue partners, and all involved parties to ensure the best experience for attendees.
The BPM Festival Costa Rica 2025 has faced challenges since Sunday’s announcement regarding the relocation of all events to its “original home base” in Tamarindo, instead of diversifying locations within the Guanacaste province. This last-minute adjustment was made “despite complying with all local regulations and municipal approvals,” due to “recent developments affecting electronic music events throughout Costa Rica.”
This year’s disruptions are not unprecedented in The BPM Festival’s history. Originally held in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, the flagship event was moved to Portugal after a tragic shooting at the 2017 event that resulted in four fatalities and 15 injuries. Since 2020, the festival has taken place in Costa Rica.
The BPM Festival Costa Rica is slated to run until Sunday, January 12, provided organizers do not face further opposition from local residents.
