Hex Cougar Makes a Comeback with New EP on BREAK ROOM Records

Los Angeles-based producer Hex Cougar is back with a bang, releasing his much-anticipated five-track EP after a five-year hiatus. As a prominent figure in the trap and hardwave music scenes, Hex Cougar is celebrated for his immersive soundscapes and has collaborated with industry giants such as RL Grime, Party Favor, Alison Wonderland, and Illenium. In 2020, he founded his label Alter/Ego, where he has championed underground talent and contributed significantly to the revival of trap/wave music.

Under the auspices of Alter/Ego, Hex Cougar has unveiled his long-awaited sophomore EP, Embody, through BREAK ROOM Records. Marking the label’s first major release, the EP demonstrates a commitment to innovative sounds in trap and hardwave music. With five unique tracks, Hex Cougar showcases his talent for crafting emotionally resonant soundscapes that traverse a wide array of feelings.

Embody represents my complex and emotional journey with music over the past four years—falling out of love and then gradually rediscovering that passion. The EP captures a range of emotions, from introspective and moody to bold and aggressive.

The lead single from Embody, titled “Ultra,” debuted alongside the launch of BREAK ROOM Records. This collaboration with VARI delivers a nostalgic trap vibe, characterized by sharp synths and distorted vocals. The follow-up single, “Still in Love,” creates a cinematic auditory journey, blending trance elements with a hauntingly dark atmosphere.

In “Oxytocin,” Hex Cougar expertly merges genres, fusing trap and bass elements with electric guitar to create an intense listening experience. The emotive track “Dream of U,” featuring Salt Lake City’s Malixe, is packed with Reese bass and explosive drops, while the dynamic drum work shines in “Eyes,” featuring FATE.
