After 25 years of cultivating one of the dance music scene’s most dedicated communities, Above & Beyond is solidifying their connection to ambient music with the launch of Anjunachill, a rebranding of their Reflections label that feels more like a return to roots than a commercial strategy.
The story behind Anjunachill is reminiscent of electronic music legends: three producers who have dominated trance (Anjunabeats) and deep house (Anjunadeep) find themselves performing yoga sets at Burning Man’s Robot Heart stage. A memorable sunrise set in 2014 led to the creation of “Flow State,” their RIAA Gold-certified meditation album, showcasing that electronic music can heal as much as it can energize.
Fast-forward through an impressive catalog of 250 releases and 150 million streams under the Reflections label, and that spontaneous desert experience has paved the way for destiny.
Now under the name Anjunachill, the label’s first release, “Shall We Begin,” was previewed to 15,000 fans at ABGT600 in Mexico City. The track embodies the ethereal soundscapes that Above & Beyond has crafted with timeless pieces like “Sun In Your Eyes” and “Tri-State,” featuring gradual builds and emotional climaxes that resonate deeply because they are delivered with subtlety.
The future of the label looks equally exciting: Planet of Souls (a new project from NERD/Gorillaz collaborator Paul Rogers), South African neo-classical duo Ad Harmonium, and Anjunadeep favorites like Luttrell exploring their introspective sides. With performances at Glastonbury and endorsements from BBC 6 Music, Anjunachill is not only safeguarding the meditative essence of dance music but also demonstrating that the most groundbreaking moments in electronic music can occur at 0 BPM.
As Above & Beyond gears up for their Coachella debut this April, Anjunachill emerges at an ideal time—a reminder that the same artists who excel at creating euphoric mainstage anthems are equally adept at exploring deeper, introspective themes.
