Niamh Jobson: Celebrated DJ and Radio Presenter Remembered in Glasgow Nightlife

Glasgow nightlife is in mourning this week following the passing of Niamh Jobson, who died in Hong Kong on January 17. The specific cause of death has not been disclosed, though she had a history of battling osteosarcoma, a type of childhood bone cancer.

Jobson’s family shared the heartbreaking news in an Instagram post, expressing that “it is with the most insurmountable pain” that they announce her death. They described her as a “hugely gifted, talented, intuitive, wise, fiercely clever, funny, sparkly, stunningly beautiful legend of a girl.”

“Today (22nd) is her 23rd birthday,” they continued. “Please, wherever you are in the world, whatever you are doing, join us in celebrating our much-loved Queen today.”

Niamh Jobson was born in Hong Kong and moved to Scotland at a young age, spending part of her childhood on the picturesque Isle of Eigg in the Inner Hebrides. It was in Glasgow where her DJ career flourished, particularly through her association with the iconic nightlife venue Sub Club.

Focusing on techno and dub, Jobson also gained recognition as a radio presenter for the Glasgow station Radio Buena Vida. Alongside fellow artist Kairogen, she co-hosted a show titled “Dub Series,” and her mixes were featured on various other platforms as well.
