Interdimensional Transmissions Launches Fundraiser for Detroit Techno Pioneer Anthony “Shake” Shakir

Renowned Detroit techno figures including Daniel Bell, DJ Etta, DJ Stingray 313, Eddie Fowlkes, and Keith Tucker will perform to support esteemed artist Anthony “Shake” Shakir during his health challenges.

Interdimensional Transmissions is uniting notable artists from the close-knit Detroit techno scene for a benefit event dedicated to Shakir, scheduled for Saturday, March 1, at Tangent Gallery. For those unable to attend, a GoFundMe campaign has been established.

According to the GoFundMe description, Shakir has been undergoing long-term treatment for multiple sclerosis (MS), which has regrettably hindered his ability to engage in DJing and music production. This event aims to celebrate Shake’s life and his invaluable contributions to the techno community, with hopes of helping him return to his passion.

Anthony “Shake” Shakir is a distinguished DJ and producer from Detroit who has significantly influenced the evolution of techno music. His journey began in high school when he triumphed in the Mixer Dome competition on The Electrifying Mojo’s radio show, establishing a distinctive mixing style early in his career.

Shakir later collaborated with Metroplex and created edits for Transmat Records, contributing to the early works of Movement Detroit favorite Carl Craig. He also released music on KMS Records and Daniel Bell’s Seventh City. His unique perspective and expertise in techno make him a highly sought-after artist, influencing numerous labels, including Interdimensional Transmissions, Tresor Records, Rush Hour Music, and Disko B.

The benefit will feature two rooms, celebrating everyone who has influenced or been influenced by Shake’s remarkable career. Tickets for the event are available through Resident Advisor.
