Jeff Mills Takes Over for Carl Cox at Movement Detroit Festival 2023

“Due to scheduling complications,” Detroit techno legend Jeff Mills will replace UK icon Carl Cox on day one of Movement Detroit 2025.

Just two weeks after Movement Detroit revealed its 2025 lineup, Carl Cox announced that he must postpone his performance at the highly anticipated house and techno festival for another year. Stepping in for him is Detroit’s own Jeff Mills.

Cox, who was expected to unveil a new version of his renowned hybrid live sets, explained that the decision was made “due to scheduling complications” in a statement released today. “I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but I promise to make it worth the wait,” he stated. “When I return, I’ll deliver my full live show experience, and it’s going to be epic!”

Does this change benefit fans? Opinions may vary. Cox attracts a significant following among more casual music fans, although his hybrid live sets do explore experimental sounds. However, for devoted “serious techno” enthusiasts who flock to Hart Plaza for an authentic experience, Mills is undoubtedly a superior choice.

Featuring one more Detroit artist aligns with Movement’s goal of showcasing local talent alongside international headliners. Mills last graced the festival in 2022, where he closed the main stage on the final day of its much-anticipated return following the COVID pandemic.
