Chicago House Music Legend Boo Williams Hospitalized, Family Seeks Support for Recovery
This month, another beloved figure in the Chicago house music scene, Boo Williams, is facing serious health challenges. Due to unspecified kidney and lung issues, he has been hospitalized, and his family is appealing for assistance to help him regain his mobility.
On February 7, Williams’ family announced his hospitalization on his Facebook page. They stated, “The bandcamp label is one of his main sources of income,” and emphasized his wish for privacy, noting that he prefers to focus on making music to cover his expenses rather than launching a GoFundMe campaign.
After being released from the hospital on February 13, Williams was readmitted shortly after. In response to the overwhelming support from fans and supporters, his family set up a PayPal donation portal.
In a Monday update, Williams expressed that he was “doing ok” and extended his gratitude to everyone who has supported him. In an Instagram Reel shared later that day from his hospital bed, he stated, “This is my current situation right now. I’m in the hospital, but I just wanted to thank a lot of people that’s donating and helping me out. I appreciate it.”
Active in the Chicago dance music scene since 1981, Boo Williams has been a key player in the evolution of house music, which emerged from the city’s vibrant gay, Black, and Latino communities. Although he began producing his own tracks in 1994, his work has recently appeared on notable labels such as Chiwax, Goldmin Music, and Nuphuture Traxx.
Williams is not alone in facing health struggles within the house music community. Recently, other artists such as DJ Deeon, Chuck Roberts, and William S have also sadly passed away due to various ailments.
