Sergio Ricciardone’s Legacy in Avant-Pop and Experimental Electronic Music
The electronic music community in Turin, Italy, and beyond is in mourning following the death of Sergio Ricciardone, the visionary founder of the C2C Festival, who passed away this week at the age of 53. As of now, the cause of death has not been revealed.
The announcement of Ricciardone’s passing came from C2C (short for Club to Club) via their Instagram account. “In this moment of grief, our thoughts are with Christel and Marcello, his family, his friends and all who had the privilege of sharing in his life and work,” the post stated. “Sergio’s vision will continue to light our path, and his presence will guide us in difficult times.”
Born in 1971, Sergio Ricciardone established Club to Club in 2002 through the Situazione Xplosiva Cultural Association, initially modeling it after the Amsterdam Dance Event as a multi-venue festival. The event eventually found its home at Lingotto Fiere, an iconic venue in Turin.
According to FQ Magazine, Marco Grimaldi of Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra remarked on Ricciardone’s influence, stating, “You made many generations dance in unthinkable places. You made people understand that our music is art just like classical music. You infused density and creativity into a small idea, transforming it into something international and unique, becoming an idea of a city.”
Over the years, C2C Festival has been a platform for numerous renowned artists, including Caribou, Laurent Garnier, Aphex Twin, Autechre, and Flume. In 2017, Ricciardone was also selected to curate the musical program for the launch events of Officine Grandi Riparazioni by the CRT Foundation.
