Marconi Union Unveils New Album ‘The Fear of Never Landing’ and Releases New Single

News

“Eight Miles High Alone,” the debut single from Marconi Union’s upcoming album, reflects the intricate emotional journey of humanity.

Over the last two years, the prominent ambient duo Marconi Union has encountered numerous creative challenges. Amidst moments of uncertainty that caused them to momentarily question the future of their project, members Jamie Crossley and Duncan Meadows have navigated through difficult times, emerging more resilient than ever.

Celebrated for their skill in crafting experimental music infused with lush, cinematic textures, Marconi Union’s notable collaboration with the British Academy of Sound, “Weightless,” is acclaimed for its stress-reducing qualities. After a hiatus, the Manchester-based duo is ready to embrace their growth and evolution with their twelfth studio album, The Fear of Never Landing, set to release via Just Music on June 6.

“We’ve always made atmospheric music, but we had started to lose that aspect. Other than some rough ideas, we had no sense of what we were doing anymore, a kind of musical wilderness. Eventually, a couple of things fell into place, and it was like, ‘Ah, okay.’ We tried out a few new tracks live, which gave us the opportunity to see what worked and what didn’t. We’ve never given ourselves that luxury before.”

With nine stunning tracks, the new album conveys a sense of hope amid the pervasive undercurrents of doubt in the world. The title itself suggests a palpable layer of anxiety woven into the theme, yet each track invites listeners into a space of introspection and enlightenment. Through intricate layers of lush loops and ethereal synths, Marconi Union demonstrates their talent for translating complex emotions into a wordless exploration.

Along with the album announcement, Marconi Union has released the first single, “Eight Miles High Alone,” offering a glimpse into what the new record holds. The accompanying music video draws viewers into a mesmerizing visual journey, showcasing the band’s exceptional production skills.

With uplifting melodies and enchanting chords, the soundscapes in the single transport listeners to a tranquil space, promoting mindfulness and presence. The consistent and hypnotic rhythm evokes a sense of floating in solitude, aligning with the album’s theme of deep reflection and emotional richness.
