Ibiza’s Tourism Board Seeks to Attract US Travelers with Direct Flights
Roundtrip airfare from the US to Spain averages nearly $2,200, which is 60% higher compared to flights between Spain and other nations. To incentivize more US tourists to visit Ibiza, local officials are working to establish nonstop flights to the island.
As reported by Diario de Ibiza, the island’s tourism board aims to secure at least one direct flight per week from the US to Ibiza. This initiative is a key objective for representatives attending Routes Europe, an aviation conference set for April in Seville, Spain.
While Juan Miguel Costa, Ibiza’s Director of Tourism, acknowledges the complexity of this endeavor, it’s not the first time such measures have been implemented to boost tourism in Spain. In 2022, a direct flight was launched from New York City to Palma de Mallorca, another Spanish island.
Ibiza is renowned as a top global nightlife destination, still attracting thousands of visitors annually to legendary superclubs such as Pacha, Hï Ibiza, and the new [UNVRS].
So, how would these direct flights from the US to Ibiza operate? Likely departure cities include New York City, Miami, or Atlanta. Costa and his team plan to engage with Delta and American Airlines, while hotel chains like Marriott and Hyatt are also showing interest in making this nonstop route a reality.
