Tragic Passing of UK DJ and Music Producer Yilan at 32 Years Old

News

Yilan, also known as Mark Bridger, who released music on notable labels like LOFS and Infinite Machine, tragically took his own life.

Mark Bridger, a UK-based DJ and producer known professionally as Yilan, died on February 10 at the age of 32.

A statement from fellow artist Tom Wood, shared on Bridger’s Instagram, revealed that Bridger’s death was a result of suicide following “a severe episode of psychotic depression that escalated rapidly.” This deterioration in his mental health came after a period of improvement, where he had been employing healthy coping strategies.

“He was proactively managing his mental health through various methods, including meditation, mindfulness, and journaling,” Wood shared. “However, by the end of summer, symptoms of depression began to surface and worsened through winter. Mark faced significant pressure and stress, impacting his overall wellbeing.”

The situation was further complicated by the miscarriage of Bridger’s wife, Melissa, which contributed to his struggle with psychotic depression, characterized by symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations.

“Melissa and I are strong advocates for understanding that Mark was profoundly unwell, and his death was a consequence of severe illness,” Wood stressed. “The rapid progression of his crisis left little room for warning signs, making it highly unlikely that any medical intervention could have occurred in time.”

Mark Bridger had been releasing music as Yilan since at least 2019, with contributions to labels such as LOFS, Listening Sessions, and Infinite Machine. His tracks, including “Regression” and “Diaspora,” exemplify his deep, reflective UK bass style.

Wood utilized this announcement to highlight mental health awareness, providing resources like Samaritans, Shout, Mind, and Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide. We at EDM Identity extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mark Bridger, known as Yilan.
