Kid Gringo: A Beloved Figure in Germany’s Dancehall Scene

Mathias Müller, known as Kid Gringo, a prominent artist from Leipzig, Germany, and based in Kampala, Uganda, has passed away under undisclosed circumstances.

His partner, Cynthia Ayan, announced his death via his Instagram account on Thursday, March 27. “With a heavy heart, I share the news that my beloved boyfriend has passed away,” she expressed. “Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers during this challenging time.”

Since the news broke, tributes from Müller’s friends and collaborators have flooded in. German artist Basil Toyo reminisced in the comments, “‘Even if I die in Africa, at least I will have lived’ is what you said that day we packed all the boxes in your flat because you were leaving Germany for good all those years ago. A toast to the life lived! I wish it wouldn’t have been a prophecy.”

Nyege Nyege, the Kampala-based record label and event company where Müller contributed significantly to visual branding, paid tribute to his legacy in a post of their own. “We’re heartbroken by the passing of Kid Gringo —the creative force behind Hakuna Kulala’s visual identity,” they stated. “His bold vision defined not only our aesthetic but also captured the vibe and energy of countless musicians he collaborated with since our inception…”

Before relocating to Uganda, Mathias Müller played a crucial role in shaping Germany’s dancehall scene. Lars Vegas remarked that Müller “won the hearts of many fans with his unique style,” emphasizing his talent for merging music, art, and emotions.

At EDM Identity, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mathias Müller, known as Kid Gringo, during this exceptionally difficult period.
