Puddle of Standing Water at Miami’s Bayfront Park Sweeps Joseph Capriati Offshore
Joseph Capriati, renowned for his captivating performances, faced an unexpected turn of events when severe rain struck Ultra Music Festival at Bayfront Park in Miami over the weekend.
Despite the festival organizers temporarily halting Sunday programming due to inclement weather, they resumed activities within an hour as festival-goers were seen enjoying the shallow puddles. Unfortunately, Capriati’s experience was markedly different. Eyewitnesses claim that the Drumcode artist attempted to navigate through the standing water, but lost his balance and was carried away into the Miami South Channel.
Search efforts for Capriati took place on Sunday evening and continued into Monday, but were unsuccessful. It wasn’t until the morning of Tuesday, April 1 that a jogger found him four miles away on South Beach, waterlogged but alive and disoriented.
In a statement posted on social media, Capriati expressed, “I am deeply sorry for the uncertainty felt by my loved ones, my team, Ultra, and my fans as a result of this incident. I promise I’ve learned my lesson and will never underestimate a puddle again, regardless of how harmless it may appear.”
Ultra Music Festival released a statement saying, “We are grateful and relieved to learn of Joseph Capriati’s safe return after Sunday’s downpour stranded him at sea. Following last year’s incident where Armin van Buuren was swept off the Worldwide Stage, we certainly could not afford another weather-related issue.”
This incident coincides with the announcement that tickets are now available for the 2026 edition of the festival, which includes a group package featuring a life raft and Ultra-branded inflatable vests.
