Step into the exciting world of the first Cheese Rave, hosted by Eventbrite in Bushwick, New York City and spearheaded by culinary star Antoni Porowski from Queer Eye. This event promises a delightful blend of cheesy fun and electrifying music!
“Cheese and electronic music might seem like an odd pairing — and it is! But they both inspire passion and sensory joy,” Porowski shared. “This is exactly what makes Eventbrite special — it’s where your different interests can coexist and even enhance each other, no matter how unique or odd.”
Initially skeptical about the theme, our doubts melted away as cheesy elements unfolded throughout the event. From a neon sign proclaiming, “DANCE ‘TIL THE WORLD MELTS,” to a shady character discreetly offering tiny baggies filled with cheese bits, the experience was nothing short of whimsical!
Exploring the “Cheese Cage” with Expert Cheesemongers
After getting acquainted with the event layout, we ventured into the “cheese cage,” where cheesemongers awaited to guide us through a delectable tasting experience. Attendees could select from an array of cheeses by checking boxes on a card or choosing directly from the selection. Options included descriptions like “Funky,” “Adventurous,” “Smooth,” and “Spicy.”
Each cheese was accompanied by delightful pairings such as cornichons, dried apricots, and crackers, creating a comprehensive tasting experience. Signs in the cheese cage highlighted the benefits of combining cheese and music, with one claiming, “GET THOSE GOUDA VIBES. Cheese contains a protein called casein that triggers dopamine, the feel-good hormone.” Who knew cheese could be so uplifting?
Cheesy Themes Everywhere You Look!
Upon entering, I was unsure if the cheese tasting and rave would feel cohesive. However, the organizers fully embraced the cheesy concept at every turn. Dancers donned inventive cheese-themed outfits, event flyers mimicked the style of classic rave posters, and even the DJ booth resembled Swiss cheese, complete with psychedelic visuals that were, quite literally, cheesy!
One of the most surprising integrations of cheese was at the bar, where drinks featured cheese pairings. My friend’s wine was garnished with cornichon and a Babybel wheel, while my beer sported an American cheese single over the rim. Although I usually wouldn’t touch an American cheese slice, dipping it into my beer turned out to be a surprisingly enjoyable experience!
This led me to the conclusion that if raves can have themes like outer space, then why not cheese?

As we moved between the dance floor and the cheese cage, we couldn’t help but keep the rhythm alive. The music was a central part of the experience, with DJs spinning a fantastic mix that kept the energy high and the crowd engaged.
The dance floor was perfectly arranged, with lighting that matched the crowd’s energy. The diverse audience, spanning generations X, Y, and Z, all danced freely, united by the quirky charm of the event.
During a brief speech, Antoni expressed his desire for the event to be “insanely quirky and weird in the best possible way.” If that was the goal, then he and his team certainly succeeded. We eagerly anticipate more events like this in the future.
