Remembering Paris Pompor: Influential Australian DJ and Co-founder of Groovescooter Records
Paris Pompor, a renowned Australian DJ, radio host, and co-founder of the influential Groovescooter Records, has tragically passed away at the age of 58. As of now, the cause of death has not been disclosed.
Groovescooter Records announced Pompor’s passing in a statement shared on Instagram on the morning of Wednesday, May 7. The family intends to hold a private funeral, with plans for a larger celebration of life to occur in the coming weeks with friends.
Growing up in Canberra, Pompor began his career as a DJ and musician during his youth. In 1996, he and Georgie Zuzak established Groovescooter Records, a label that showcased various artists including Steve Kilbey, Kylie Auldist, and Dirty Three. The label also ventured into organizing documentary screenings, panel discussions, and art exhibitions in collaboration with the Sydney Film Festival.
In addition to his work as a DJ, Pompor hosted a radio show called Jumping The Gap on Sydney station 2SER 107.3. Earlier today, the station aired a heartfelt tribute featuring four hours of Pompor’s programming.
“Paris was a cornerstone of Sydney’s creative scene, offering immense generosity and kindness to everyone,” expressed the Golden Age Cinema & Bar in a heartfelt tribute. “Our deepest condolences go out to Georgie and all of his close friends and family.”
“Paris was an exceptional DJ, producer, and radio presenter whose remarkable taste in music was matched only by his deep passion for the art, extensive knowledge, sharp wit, and infectious humor,” noted 2SER in a social media post honoring him.
At EDM Identity, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Paris Pompor during this challenging period.
